Sask Soccer showcases Goethe-Institute’s “Planet Football’ exhibition
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association in cooperation with Saskatoon Youth Soccer is pleased to present the photo exhibition “Planet Football – Weltsprache Fussball”, as sponsored by the German Federal Government and the Goethe Institute to mark the 100 day countdown for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany.
The exhibition, which will open this Friday, March 3rd at the Henk Ruys Soccer Center during festivities surrounding the Saskatchewan Soccer Association’s Indoor Division II Youth Provincial Championships, showcases 50 soccer photographs (100 cm x 70 cm) by the world famous MAGNUM PHOTOS agency.
“These photographs were chosen out of a pool of approximately 4000 entries for best encapsulating the universal spirit of this great game, which is loved the world over”, stated Edmund Borschel, German language consultant of the “Central Agency of German Schools Abroad” (ZfA in Cologne) and posted at Alberta Education, Edmonton, who helps to promote this unique art collection all across Western Canada.
As the Goethe Institute highlights on its website, the “Planet Football” exhibition aims to demonstrate the sport's proximity to national identity, religion and leisure.
"The universal language of football is a global communication medium, which - in its various accents - is understood as much in the slums as it is in the world's largest cities, no less in the villages of Bavaria than in those of Burkina Faso", said Jutta Limbach, president of the Goethe-Institute in Germany, in launching the world tour taking the exhibition to 80 countries.
Saskatoon Youth Soccer, as proud host of the exhibition invites all school and soccer groups to take advantage of this outstanding offering by contacting the soccer center at 975-3400 to set up a tour. The posters will be on display until March 19th.
This exhibition is another highlight in the Saskatchewan Soccer community’s year-long celebration of its centennial anniversary, which will come to an end in April 2006.
